My pet is Pi. She got her name because she has the π symbol in white on her chest. You can see the π here, but it becomes more visible when she's lying on her back for a belly scratch. She's a six-month-old Portuguese water dog with so much energy. The groomer came yesterday to give her a summer cut; I like her coat a bit longer, but short is cooler and easier to care for. Here she is doing one of her tricks--she's usually a bit more graceful! This is Pi holding still (rare). In this picture, she looks like she's posing for a picture, but actually she was wrestling with me. She's learning to be cuddly, but moments after this picture was taken, she tackled me and licked the glasses off my face. My goals for the day: Stay in the seat, turn off the phone, and focus Have a break mid-morning and another for lunch Finish the long report by 2:00 PM

Yesterday, my goal was to finish a report. Instead I ended up starting four reports and not finishing any of them. I am working on letting go of disappointment at not finishing the goal. Today's goal is less specific, but probably more productive: Dig in on the data for the reports. I think I can make good progress on this goal, which should put me on track to meet my deadline.

Today, I need to finish an outcomes report discussing the evidence that students met specific learning objectives in the curriculum I lead. To help me accomplish the goal, I will put away my phone, close down my email, and stay away from Twitter until mid-morning, when I'll check in with the world and eat a healthy snack!

Introductions Hi, everyone! I am Matt Gilchrist. I taught and tutored in the Rhetoric Department for many years, and I earned my PhD at the University of Iowa in 2018. Now I am directing the Rauch Center for Business Communication at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA. I have worked with graduate writers in many capacities, including coaching a previous dissertation camp, teaching the Writing in the Disciplines course, and creating the Science Communication in the Digital Age course. I look forward to working with many of you as you express your ideas through writing. My summer writing projects include an assessment report, which I am working on this week. It will examine learning outcomes of two courses I have designed at Lehigh.
